Florida Medicare Provider Web Site Navigation Tutorial

Breadcrumbs

Breadcrumbs (or a breadcrumb trail) are a navigation technique used to give visitors a way to keep track of their location within the Provider Web site. Breadcrumbs appear horizontally across the top of each Web page just below the header navigation. They provide links back to each previous page that the user navigated through in order to get to the current page. Breadcrumbs also provide a trail for the user to follow back to the starting/entry point of the Web site.

Navigation prompts

Small icons will alert a user if they are about to leave the Medicare sites or are about to open a document other than a regular Web page.

Flash content requires the Adobe Flash player or Flash plug-in for your Web browser.

Navigation hyperlinks

Medicare is full of acronyms. Acronyms are used most often to abbreviate names and long or frequently referenced terms. They are intended to be helpful but the sheer number of them can be hard to keep track of.
Some acronyms are well known, such as CMS (The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) and NPI (National Provider Identifier), but what about the lesser-known ones? Now, acronyms will never get in the way of finding the information that you need. If you are unsure of a particular acronym in this Web site’s navigation, simply hover your mouse over the hyperlink for a moment and the definition will be displayed.
Here is an example on the Provider Outreach & Education main page: POE-AG. By moving your mouse over the hyperlink and leaving it there for just a moment, the full title is displayed.

Header and Horizontal Navigation

The six main content areas of the Medicare Provider Web site are Home, Medicare Part A, Medicare Part B, Provider Outreach & Education, Reference and Electronic Data Interchange (EDI). The top header and accompanying horizontal navigation are displayed on each page of the Web site. Additional navigation options include direct links to the Search page, Site Map, Contact page, Help page and eNews signup page. When a visitor has navigated to a particular section of the Web site, the appropriate horizontal menu button is highlighted.

Search

Web site visitors can easily enter search terms in the header section of any page on the Web site.

eLearning (Learning Management System)

All providers now have the ability to track, print and record their educational activities with FCSO’s (First Coast Service Options Inc.) Learning Management System (LMS), located at www.fcsomedicaretraining.com external link
For help with the LMS, please refer to the User Guide for eLearning pdf.

Site Map

The sitemap is a site index of the Medicare Web site. It is a Web page that lists the Content pages on the Medicare Web site, organized in hierarchical fashion. The sitemap can help visitors to this site find Web pages.

Content Presentation

Each of the main six content areas has a “landing page” with Headlines, left-navigation links, and bottom-navigation links in addition to the standard Web site footer. The Headlines content items are new and fresh content to be displayed predominately in the appropriate section of the Web site. Left and bottom navigation bring visitors to another level of detail on the Web site.

On “Content Pages”, visitors can easily determine content freshness based on the last modified date displayed in the upper-right corner of the page. FCSO and/or CMS source information (if applicable) is displayed at the very bottom-right corner of the article.

News & Bulletins section

By bringing together Medicare articles and FCSO publications in one convenient location, this section is your one-stop shop for the latest Medicare news.
Publications are found by selecting the "News & Bulletins" link in the "Quick Find" menu on the Medicare Part A or Part B main page. To view or download current or previous publications, select the "Archives" link in the "Topics:" menu bar at the top of the page.
All articles released during the month will be posted to the "News & Bulletins" page. The page builds chronologically with each new article released so providers can stay up-to-date on the latest Medicare news.
At the end of the month, many of these articles will then be archived into the Medicare Part A and/or Part B publication. Articles not included in the publication will remain on the appropriate Web site pages.
